I can’t believe summer is almost over. Now I have to start packing and finish my summer reading books, which is so much less fun than my internship. That ended last week, but not without a bang. I was able to record some mock anchoring segments, put together some mock packages, and write a lot of stories for each night’s news. I enjoyed working in the ABC6/FOX28 newsroom and wish I didn’t have to go back to school.
For now, it’s onto senior year…but not before a post roundup. And this one has videos!
First off, the eighth season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee came and went. I wrote about the June recaps in this post. The July episodes were with J.B. Smoove, Lorne Michaels, and John Oliver. I also ranked the entire season.
During my internship, a few of us interns were part of a…well, you’ll see by clicking here. The video is also embedded below. It definitely makes for a story to tell people when they ask me about my internship!
Later in the month, I was on camera for better reasons. I recorded a few mock anchoring segments and worked on some packages for my reel. While I’m not going to share all of the videos, I do have one I’m going to post here. It’s a package that I put together a couple weeks ago ahead of Columbus’ special election on Issue 1. The video can be found here; it’s also embedded below.
Aside from shooting video, I singlehandedly put together every other aspect of this package. That means: doing all the interviews, writing and voicing the narration/script, and editing the audio and video. Mind you, I have no prior experience with Avid Newscutter, the program they use for the video editing, so that is its own separate feat. If you have any comments on the video, feel free to leave a comment or send me a tweet.
Suddenly, I became the newsroom’s Issue 1 expert. I wrote the web story for another report ahead of the special election, which you can read on both the ABC6 and FOX28 websites. The special election came and went, with the political focus shifting to November…and Donald Trump. I wrote a web story on that one, too (ABC6 link – FOX28 link).
I’ve got some free time between now and the start of the semester, at which point I’ll post an update with more posts. As always, feel free to tweet @NSF_Alex if you have any questions, comments, concerns or 140-character diatribes.
