This week’s show was an abbreviated one that focused on the NBA trade deadline and the turnover at FS1. You can listen to it below and subscribe to Big Red Sports Talk podcasts on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play!
Football season is in the rearview mirror, which means basketball and baseball are in the foreground once again. I interviewed SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo to preview the 2017 MLB season and WTAM 1100’s Glenn Forbes to talk about the Cavs and Indians. On this week’s Big Red Sports Talk, Yahoo Sports NBA writer Dan Devine talked with me for half an hour about the Cavs, the trade deadline, and more. There was also a Super Bowl recap, a discussion of good/bad sports owners, and even some Tiger Woods talk. No guests this week, but Zach and I previewed the Super Bowl, talked way too much about Pat McAfee’s retirement, and didn’t stick to sports. With the Super Bowl in a little over a week, Zach and I talked with two CBS Sports writers about the game, and some other NFL news. Both John Breech and Sean Wagner-McGough were very informative. We also talked with New York Times bestselling author Jeff Pearlman. All of the interviews are embedded below, as is full show audio. During the show, I ranted about Roger Goodell, who I compared to President Trump and the new administration. Do you hear that sound? It’s me, exhaling the loudest I possibly can. Last semester kept me extremely busy, and while I enjoyed it, I need to take a couple weeks to relax…and fill out job applications, because I’d like to be employed once I graduate.
As the calendar turns to 2017, I’ll be covering men’s basketball for the Denisonian. I’ll also continue writing bi-weekly podcast reviews for Awful Announcing. Broadcast-wise, I’ll be calling games for the Denison Sports Network and hosting the final (whoa) semester of Big Red Sports Talk on WDUB.
But this post isn’t about the future. It’s about the present, with the present being my December posts. Only three because of finals, but I had fun writing them.
12/1 – Podcast Review: The Runner’s World Show – This one exercised (pun intended) some different muscles because I was writing about a good podcast, but a show where I’m not the target audience. In other news: I need to work out. If you’re reading this around when it goes live, I’ll be at the gym.
12/6 – Denisonian: Men’s Basketball – I’m proud of these guys and I hope my story did their start justice. I’m mostly happy with how this one turned out.
12/15 – Podcast Review: Dickie Speaks – Finals puts you between a rock and a hard place, timewise. This one turned out okay considering my mind was more worried about final papers.
Will Hibbard joined me in studio and we mourned the loss of Craig Sager, broke down the NBA and MLB CBAs, and talked about scum players and people in college football. Listen below and be sure to subscribe to full Big Red Sports Talk podcasts on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play!
The penultimate show of the semester included a lot of bowl game picks and an interview with Franchise Hockey Manager 3 producer Jeff Riddolls. We’ll see if Joel recovers from the burns he endured from all of my hot NBA takes late in the show. Anthony Sernus and Joel Lohoua hosted with me and we had a lot of fun. There were also two interviews: one with Marc Sterne (Denison ’91), who works as a producer for the Tony Kornheiser show, and the other with Gary Gorski of Wolverine Studios, who talked about their recent releases.
