From Markelle Fultz to Alpha Kaba, Rick and I broke down everything that mattered in last week’s NBA Draft. We discussed winners and losers and even reacted to some questionable analyst breakdowns. There’s a new intro to the show! In this episode, Rick and I attempt to explain Dan Gilbert’s decision to let go of David Griffin before giving our rapid (and live) reactions to the Jimmy Butler trade. The audio quality might not be the greatest, but the quality (and quantity) of hot takes more than make up for it. Rick and I are working to improve overall audio quality, which will be noticed in future episodes. Content-wise, we plan on discussing the future of the NBA and how Golden State may not win next year’s championship. Oops! Didn’t realize how long it had been since my last post roundup. Now that I have been made aware of it, I am correcting that issue. Between finishing at Denison and continuing the hunt for a job, I have been writing less than usual. I still have my Awful Announcing podcast reviews and I’m back writing some for It’s Pronounced Lajaway, which means you’ll all be able to read my scorching Indians takes for the next couple months.
4/17 – Podcast Review: The Ringer MLB Show – Awful Announcing
I like this show but didn’t like that it was exclusive to TuneIn for the month of April. Luckily, that is no longer the case, which means one of the deepest baseball podcasts there is automatically downloads to my phone again.
5/1 – Podcast Review: The Leisuremen – Awful Announcing
I started watching/listening to The Dan Patrick Show in college. The Danettes are an amazing supporting cast, so when two of them started hosting their own radio show and podcast, it was only a matter of time before I reviewed it.
5/15 – Podcast Review: Against All Odds with Cousin Sal – Awful Announcing
This show has gotten better since I reviewed it, which I predicted would happen. It’s always good for a few laughs and some nearly unbelievable sports betting stories.
6/1 – Podcast Review: The Tony Kornheiser Show – Awful Announcing
It’s nice when a Big Red Sports Talk interview can help my AA work, and this cut runs even deeper since Marc “Nigel” Sterne is a fellow Denison alum. This show was suggested to me for months and I didn’t have time while at Denison to properly review the impressive amount of content this show produces each week. Now that I am a graduate, I was able to cross this show off my list.
Also of note, this was hands down the nicest and best feedback I have ever received on one of these podcast reviews. Sure, people disagreed with some of my points and opinions, but a lot of the “Littles” who love the show were in strong agreement that my review was starkly accurate. Weird how the internet works sometimes.
That pesky Cleveland baseball team needs to figure it out and take hold of the division all of the pundits expected them to run away with. I think they will figure it out soon, but going to be a lot of head shaking and frustration until then.
I’ll have a new podcast review up on 6/15. Aside from that, who knows? I’ll be sure to let you know once I do…and I’ll probably spoof “The Decision” on a future podcast to make the announcement.
The Cavs are down 3-0 in the NBA Finals, which means you get to hear a lot of ranting from me. It was a painful loss to deal with, and Rick and I tried to give our rapid reactions. It took some time to get the episode uploaded, but we think it’s well worth it. Listen to the podcast below and subscribe to The Alex Kaufman Show on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play!
Late last night, while still in the midst of mourning the Cleveland Cavaliers’ loss in game two of the NBA Finals, Rick Brewer and I recorded another podcast. I debuted my new microphone and we complained a lot about the team’s lack of effort and hustle. Rick and I also tried to figure out how the Cavs come back in the series before realizing that we might need a reality check in the series. This was it. Last night’s Big Red Sports Talk was my final time on the WDUB airwaves. Hard to believe I’m graduating so soon, but it’s exciting. I almost teared up reminiscing about my time hosting the show because it’s been my baby for the last four years. It was really nice being joined by Drew Gray, Joel Lohoua, and Anthony Sernus during the show. You can listen to the audio below, as well as on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play.
There were no guests on this week’s show, so I had time to rant. Zach and I also revisited LeBron leaving (and returning to) Cleveland, Serena Williams as the GOAT of all sports, not just tennis, and how often I say “of course.”
Hard to believe commencement is in less than a month. That means these are the final few shows, including this week’s episode, with two guests. One was NBA veteran Scot Pollard, which included a question on his famous “hey kids, do drugs” moment. The other was Rich Grisham of OOTP Developments, who discussed the company’s recent releases: Out of the Park Baseball 18 and MLB Manager 2017.
